Applique is a quilting technique that features pieces of fabric cut to create designs and applied to a foundation fabric. The pieces may be cut to the appropriate shape by hand, traced using a paper form or drawn with the free hand in the form of leaves, hearts, or other shapes. The designs are often combined with embroidery or crochet to create the desired effect. The careful planning and customized artwork featured in appliqué quilts is reflected in their slightly higher prices. |
